(VOVworld)- The leaders of People’s Councils from 9 southeastern provinces met on Wednesday in Ho Chi Minh city to discuss ways of improving capacity building and operation of People’s Councils. Delegates also discussed the role of the People’s Councils in settling voters’ complaints and petitions. Tran Dinh Khoa is a permanent member of Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial People’s Council: “Deputies should represent the areas where they are elected and the people come to us to express their concerns. Besides holding regular meetings, the deputies contact and listen to what people have to say. Based on this feedback, the provincial People’s Council will look at policies, measures and resolutions, which are relevant to local socio-economic conditions”.

The conference provides a forum for exchanging experiences and information relating to how People’s Councils and other mechanisms work to facilitate development in the southeastern region.
