Khmer ethnic people’s culture promoted at Soc Trang festival

(VOVWORLD) - The traditional culture of southern Khmer people is being highlighted at the ongoing Southern Khmer Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival and the 5th Ok Om Bok Boat Racing Festival, which opened Sunday in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang.

Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said at the opening ceremony that thanks to performances by more than 2,000 artists and athletes, people attending this festival will experience Khmer folk songs, dances , and theater arts.

"The unique sound of the five-tone instrument is the symbol of this cultural space which communicates the Southern Khmer people’s heart to the gods, to nature, and to all human beings," Mr. Dong added.

The Festival also features a moon offering and a launching of Loi Protip floating lanterns.

The Ok Om Bok boat race will involve nine teams and more than 800 athletes.
