Suga said after taking office last September that he will “inherit” predecessor Abe Shinzo's willingness to meet with Kim without preconditions. Kato told reporters that Suga "firmly maintains" the stance taken by Abe.

The White House has ruled out a summit between leader Kim and US President Joe Biden in the near future.
