Japan holds state funeral for late PM Abe Shinzo

(VOVWORLD) - The Japanese government held a state funeral for late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo at Nippon Budokan Hall in central Tokyo on Tuesday. More than 4,000 Japanese leaders and officials and more than 700 foreign guests from 218 countries, territories, and international organizations were among the mourners.

In his address, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed his grief over Abe Shinzo’s death. He praised the legacy of Abe including a stronger Japan-US alliance, proposal to set up the Quad Security Dialogue between the US, Japan, Australia and India, and the Free and Open Indo-Pacific Initiative.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, laid a wreath to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister. President Phuc expressed deep condolences to the Liberal Democratic Party, the Government, the Parliament and people of Japan and Abe Shinzos family. He thanked the late Prime Minister for contributing to the development of Vietnam-Japan ties.

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida and Mrs. Abe Akie, Abe Shinzo’s wife, thanked the Vietnamese President and the delegation for attending the state funeral, saying its a special acknowledgment of the late PMs contributions to the Vietnam-Japan relationship and a demonstration of the Vietnamese Party, State and peoples respect for the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
