The Delta-plus, formed by mutation in the Delta variant, is currently a “variant of interest”, and hasn’t been classified as a “variant of concern” by the Union health ministry yet.

Local authorities have set up isolation and blockade areas in places where this variant is found. According to local health officials, the Delta plus variant may be one of the causes of the second wave of COVID-19 in India.

India on Monday reported more than 53,000 new COVID-19 infections and more than 1,400 deaths.
