(VOVWORLD) - India recorded more than 314,000 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour period, the highest daily case count in a single country since the virus appeared.

Deaths also rose by 2,104 on Wednesday, which is the country's worst recorded daily death toll.

More than 15.9 million people have tested positive for COVID-19 in India. Previously the US had the record, with 300,310 cases on January 2.
