The ILO is committed to safe labour migration. When migrant workers’ rights are respected and their journeys are safe, they, their families, and society benefit from remittances and improved skills, said ILO Viet Nam Director, Chang-Hee Lee.

Vietnam has a growing number of people going abroad for work. More than 140.000 contract workers went abroad in 2019.  Migrant workers send home 2.5-3 billion USD annually, according to Government estimates. The ILO strongly recommends improving legal migration channels by reducing cost and increasing access to them.
