ILO calls for immediate action to mitigate COVID-19 impacts on businesses, jobs, and incomes

(VOVWORLD) - Chang-Hee Lee, Country Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Vietnam, has praised Vietnam for its efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic and praised the Prime Minister’s message that Vietnam is ready to accept economic losses to protect the lives of its citizens.

Lee said that ILO Vietnam is ready to ready to help the Vietnamese Government, employers and employees to find suitable jobs as the coronavirus takes its toll on the health and labour markets and the economy.

As the fight against the epidemic continues, immediate action must be taken to mitigate negative impacts on businesses, jobs, and incomes, Lee said.

According to the ILO, the crisis will cut total hours worked worldwide by 6.7% in the second quarter of this year, equivalent to the loss of 195 million full-time jobs. The world is forecast to lose 25 million jobs in all.
