(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh City, the epicenter of the current COVID-19 wave, will open 150 new grocery stores in densely-populated areas in the next few days, said Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Industry and Trade.

Ho Chi Minh City has given citizens shopping vouchers for specific hours to reduce crowding and shorten people’s shopping time.

“We are reviewing distribution channels and encourages businesses to add more fresh food products to their shops,” said Phuong.

The Department has urged quick reopening of safe points of sale at traditional markets or food supply points nearby.

HCM City has recorded more than 96,000 COVID-19 infections, nearly two thirds of Vietnam’s total count, since the 4th wave of coronavirus hit the country in late April.
