Historical values of Dien Bien Phu campaign honored

(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony took place in Dien Bien province on Monday to mark the 110th  anniversary of the province and 65 years of the Dien Bien Phu victory. Attending the event were Party and State leaders, representatives of ministries, sectors, and localities, and more than 2,300 soldiers and civilians.

National Assembly Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said the meeting coincided with the celebration of 65 years of the Dien Bien Phu victory, an important political event.

“At these moments, we would like to show gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap, and forever remember the great merit of soldiers and people nationwide who heroically fought and sacrificed their lives in the resounding Dien Bien Phu victory,” Madam Phong said.

“It will be forever a glorious milestone in Vietnamese history and inspire spiritual strength and provide a valuable lesson in national defense for future generations.”

The ceremony was followed by a parade involving 2,300 soldiers and civilians and an art performance called “Dien Bien Phu – immortal epic”.

Nguyen Thi Hoa, who attended the ceremony, said: “I feel moved by the image of Vietnamese soldiers and volunteers who bravely fought in the Dien Bien Phu campaign.”

On Monday morning, Party and State leaders laid a wreath at the A1 Martyrs’ Cemetery, where 600 soldiers who died in the Dien Bien Phu campaign are buried.
