The show uses singing and dancing to retell the legend of the Japanese covered bridge, locally known as the Pagoda Bridge, a battle with “con Cù” (Mamazu), a sea monster with its head in India, its body in Vietnam, and its tail in Japan, and Hoi An’s history of growing mulberries and raising silkworms.

The show also includes the founding of the local pottery craft and Hoi An town, using Cham dance and Bai Choi, a popular style of folk singing in central Vietnam.

It is part of an effort to restore local tourism, which has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Many tourists have returned to Hoi An and are reviving the ancient town’s hospitality industry. I’ve been very satisfied with this trip,” said Pham Thi Ha, a visitor from Hanoi.
