The genome sequencing of the three patients who are receiving COVID-19 treatment at Hospital April 30 showed they had contracted the Omicron strain BA.1.

The results of gene decoding were confirmed on Tuesday by the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Vietnamnet reported.  

The three patients live in Binh Chanh and Go Vap Districts and District 11.

The municipal Department of Health has yet to give any comment on the news.

These are three first locally acquired Omicron cases in the city.

HCM City has previously confirmed 30 Omicron cases with all of them returning to Vietnam from overseas.
