The 23-year-old man in question has been transferred to a hospital for treatment. Part of an apartment building on Su Van Hanh Street in District 5, his place of residence, has been locked down by local authorities.

He traveled with patient 1440 from Myanmar to Thailand and Cambodia before illegally crossing the border into Vietnam last Thursday to avoid a 14-day quarantine.

13 people who had direct contact with patient 1440, including his parents and local health workers and police officers, were negative for COVID-19 in their first test, while 120 other secondhand contacts were told to self-quarantine at home.

Vietnam confirmed 1,441 COVID-19 patients as of Monday morning, with 1,303 recoveries and 35 fatalities, according to the Ministry of Health.
