Global COVID-19 death toll surpasses 290,000

(VOVWORLD) - More than 4.4 million coronavirus cases had been reported globally as of Thursday morning, according to worldometers.info. The death toll has now surpassed 290,000. More than 1.6 million people have recovered. 

The US has been the hardest hit by COVID-19, with over 1.4 million confirmed cases and 85,000 deaths.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China announced 2 new cases Wednesday after 3 weeks with no new cases. The government is trying to track down the source of the new infections.

South Korea recorded 26 new cases on Wednesday. It was the second day in a row that there were more new infections than recoveries, raising concerns about a possible second wave of infection in South Korea.
