Gia Lai to host first cultural festival of Central Highlands ethnic groups

(VOVWORLD) -The first culture, sport and tourism festival of ethic people in the Central Highlands will take place in Gia Lai province in November.

Phan Xuan Vu, Director of the Gia Lai culture department, told a press briefing on Friday that the event is part of efforts to promote tourism in the region.

“We have set the target of turning tourism into a key industry by 2030. To meet this goal, we are creating unique regional tourism services and products based on local history, landscape, and culture including the gong culture,” Vu explained. 

UNESCO recognized the Central Highlands’ space of gong culture as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005. The Central Highlands, which consists of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong provinces, is home to dozens of ethnic minority groups.
