G7 ministers pledge to phase out coal, decarbonise power

(VOVWORLD) -Climate ministers from the Group of Seven economic powers met in Berlin to discuss a time frame for phasing out coal power, part of the G7 ministerial meeting on environment, climate and energy.

Germany, which currently holds the the G7 Presidency, proposed that the ministers set a target of phasing out polluting coal-fueled energy by 2030.

This proposal received support from other European countries and Canada, but some countries were cool toward the idea.

Japan refused to commit to a definite time frame for phasing out coal-fired power, while the US said it would do it by sometime in the '30s.
