Funeral held in Hanoi for former chief of National Assembly Office

(VOVWORLD) - A high-level funeral was held in Hanoi on Wednesday for former chief of the National Assembly Office Vu Mao.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and leaders of ministries, departments, and agencies. At the service, Prime Minister Phuc expressed his condolences and praised Vu Mao for his contributions to Vietnam. 

Vu Mao was born December 19, 1939 in Hanoi and passed away last Saturday at his home in Hanoi. He was buried in the Thien Duc cemetery in Phu Tho province.

During his career, Mr. Mao held many important positions, including Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Office, Vice President of Vietnam’s Solidarity, Peace, and Friendship Unions with other countries, and President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association.

He was awarded the General's Order of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the First-class Issara Order of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Order of the Rising Sun of the Japanese Emperor.
