(VOVWORLD) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday began a State visit to the US, which is expected to be a new beginning for the long-standing alliance between the two countries.

A day before the visit, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby expressed his appreciation of France’s vital role in international issues as a nuclear superpower.

Macron said he will talk by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon and will call for more support for the Ukrainians at a conference in Paris in December.

Macron wants to resolve a potential trade conflict with the US related to the 370 billion USD Inflation Reduction Act, which will take effect in early 2023. Macron is also expected to negotiate with the US to bring down the price of natural gas liquids from four times higher than the EU price to a more reasonable level.

The French leader and his US counterpart will discuss climate change, aerospace and nuclear cooperation, the Indo-Pacific region, and China policies.
