During the forum held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations and the Hanoi’s Peace Committee, participants said that over the reviewed period Hanoi has remained the sole city in Asia-Pacific to have achieved the award “a city for peace”. It’s an honor and challenge for Hanoi.
Nguyen Viet Chuc, Director of the Thanh Long culture research Institute, said: “Hanoi was recognized by UNESCO as a city for peace for its invaluable assets that people in Hanoi and nationwide have preserved from generation to generation.  We must promote these values in the current period of national construction and defense. We’ll never let our traditions fall into oblivion.” Participants suggested to further improving the quality of tourism services to make Hanoi remaining an attractive, safe, and friendly destination.
UNESCO granted Hanoi the award "A city for peace" on July 16, 1999 in La Paz capital city of Bolivia.
