(VOVworld)-Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh yesterday held talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi during his ongoing official visit to China. The two ministers reviewed the development of bilateral ties, region and international issues of mutual concerns and discussed measures to boost the Sino Vietnamese comprehensive strategic partnership. They agreed on the importance of increasing the exchanges of high level visits and boosting bilateral friendship and cooperation. In regard to border and territory issues, both sides agreed to urge relevant agencies to work on the early singing of an agreement to facilitate free travel of ships at the mouth of the Bac Luan river, tap tourism potential in the Ban Gioc waterfall area, and utilize water resources.

On the East Sea issue, they called for coordinated efforts to settle disputes through peaceful means on the basis of mutual respect and benefit, and abide by international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards the building of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

During his ongoing visit to China, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks with the Member of the Politburo Standing Committee, Secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China, Zhou Yongkang in Beijing today/Monday. During talks, the Chinese official stressed the Chinese Party, government and people treasured relations with Vietnam saying that the bilateral ties are developing robustly in line with two peoples’ interests serving peace, stability and development in the region and world. He suggested both countries increase exchanges between senior officials, strengthen political trust and practically and effectively deepen cooperation in all fields as well as satisfactorily resolve all pending issues to further the Sino Vietnamese relations. Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh reiterated the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of developing relations with Chinese counterparts to further develop the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.Chairman of the Chinese People’s National Congress Dai Binguo, in a meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed both countries need to bring into play the cooperation mechanism of the Steering Committee for bilateral cooperation and enhance cooperation between different levels, localities and agencies of the two countries. The same day, Foreign Minister Minh met with Wang Jiarui, Head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee. They discussed measures to boost cooperation between the two parties.
