First fiery debate for US presidential candidates

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden faced off in the first 2020 presidential debate Tuesday night in Cleveland, Ohio. During the 90-minute debate, the two politicians continuously attacked each other to express their arguments.

President Trump defended his government’s measures to handle the Covid 19 pandemic which claimed the lives of 200,000 people. He said they did well and Biden could never have done the job that the current administration did. Biden said if he is elected he will ensure that hospitals have all necessary equipment to treat patients and protect medical workers.

Economically, Trump said up to Covid-19 he had the best economy ever. Biden said the incumbent president has destroyed all advantages created by its predecessor.

Biden says Trump takes advantage of the tax code and that he will change the laws when he gets into power. Trump responded that he paid millions in taxes in 2016 and 2017.

On the science of climate change, Trump said the forest fires are caused by poor forest management by local governments.Biden said he will get the US back into the Paris Climate Change accord. 

The two candidates discussed sectarian issue which has ignited demonstrations nationwide. In the final section they talked about election integrity.

The two candidates will join a direct debate in Miami, Florida on October 15th and one in Nashville, Tennessee on October 22nd before the election on November 3rd.
