(VOVworld) - Major European powers could be forced to retreat into a “mini-Schengen” zone if peripheral member states do not help shoulder the burdens of the migrant crisis, the head of the Eurogroup warned on Saturday. Jeroen Dijsselbloem said the EU passport-free zone could not survive if all 26 members did not invest more in securing Europe’s external borders and dealing with the influx of more than a million migrants this year that has divided Europe between east and west. His remarks came days after Jean-Claude Juncker, the head of the European Commission, admitted that Schengen was already “partially comatose” and warned that if the agreement collapsed it would take the Eurozone down with it.
