EU leaders reject May’s proposal on Brexit

(VOVWORLD) - Theresa May's proposed new economic partnership with the EU will not work, said Donald Tusk, head of the European Council on Thursday, noting that the proposal risks undermining the EU's single market.

He warned that there are some areas where the EU is not willing to compromise, including its four fundamental freedoms and the Irish border, adding that the EU needs a tough, clear and precise guarantee from London. The two sides will meet again at the EU Summit in November. Ms May will soon announce new ideas for resolving trade issues in Ireland, as she pushes for a full Brexit strategy to meet the November 18 deadline. Ms. May said the UK is ready to leave the EU without an agreement. 

Practially all EU leaders would like to see the UK hold a second referendum on Brexit, Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told the BBC. Mr. Muscat said most EU leaders would welcome the possibility of seeing the British people decide again after putting things into perspective, seeing what has been negotiated and what the options are. Andrej Babiš, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic said he wants to see the UK hold another referendum that might overturn the previous result.
