During talks with Speaker of the German Parliament Norbert Lammert on Wednesday, Hung proposed to increase senior delegation exchanges between the two governments, parliaments, and parliamentary friendship groups. He called for close cooperation at international forums like the UN, ASEM, ASEAN-EU, and parliamentary forums of which Vietnam and Germany are members. Lammert said Germany is committed to developing its relationship with Vietnam.
The same day, Chairman Hung visited the Vietnamese Embassy staff and Vietnamese people living in Berlin. He thanked them for their contributions to the nation, and told them the State will adopt measures to make it easier for overseas Vietnamese to invest in their home country.
Within the framework of the National Assembly Chairman’s visit to Germany, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang held a working session with Philipp Roesler, Germans Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economics. They expressed their pleasure at the signing of Government-level agreements on the design, construction and operation of the German House in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders. German Vice Chancellor Philipp Roesler said that a delegation from the Federal Minister of Economics will visit Vietnam and attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the HCM City-based German House. Vietnamese delegates called for further German support in the negotiation process for the signing of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), as well as the building of the Vietnam House (Viethaus) in Berlin. They agreed on joint efforts to ensure the successful organisation of a Germany-Asia Pacific meeting to be held in Hanoi next year.
