(VOVWORLD) - Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday called for the deployment of international forces in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need for the Gaza ceasefire agreement, recently brokered between Israel and Hamas, to receive international legitimacy through the UN Security Council.

According to the Egyptian Presidency, in a phone call with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of the ceasefire in ending hostilities, releasing hostages and prisoners, ensuring humanitarian aid access, and initiating Gaza’s reconstruction.

The initial phase of the ceasefire, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States, took effect on October 10 after days of intensive negotiations in Egypt.

A Summit on Peace in Gaza, co-chaired by President El-Sisi and US President Trump, is scheduled for October 13 in Sharm El-Sheikh, with participation from leaders of over 20 countries. According to an Egyptian Presidential statement on October 11, the summit aims to end the Gaza conflict, advance peace efforts, and open a new chapter for regional security and stability in the Middle East.

Regarding the humanitarian situation, on October 11, the Egyptian Relief Committee for the People of Gaza dispatched 100 trucks to help evacuate Gaza residents and transport their belongings to northern Gaza via the Al-Rashid coastal road. Egypt also sent a large humanitarian convoy carrying food, water, medical supplies, and fuel to help sustain hospitals and essential services after two years of devastating conflict.

Under the first phase of the ceasefire, 400–600 aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza daily, moving freely between southern and northern areas through the Salah al-Din and Al-Rashid routes.
