Deputy PM urges stronger Vietnam-RoK cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh says Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) should promote cooperation in defense, security, economy, e-commerce, labor, and innovation toward the target of 100 billion USD in two-way trade by 2020.

At a reception in Hanoi on Wednesday for Deputy Foreign Minister Yoon Soon-gu, who is also head of SOM ASEAN in the RoK, Mr. Minh praised the positive development of ASEAN- RoK ties in recent years. He said Vietnam and ASEAN both value their relations with the RoK and he hopes these relations will continue to improve.

Mr. Yoon said the RoK also values the ties with Vietnam and ASEAN. He highlighted Vietnam’s importance in the New Southern Policy of President Moon Jae-in and in the development of relations between the RoK and ASEAN. He said he hopes that Vietnam will continue to boost bilateral ties with the RoK via multilateral mechanisms like ASEAN-RoK and Mekong-RoK.

Earlier, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister and head of SOM ASEAN Nguyen Quoc Dung held a working session with the Korean delegation to prepare for the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit scheduled for late 2019 in the RoK.
