(VOVWORLD) - The US Senate on Friday once again failed to pass budget bills, making it almost certain that the federal government shutdown will continue into next week.

This marks the fourth failed attempt this week to reach a financial solution.

Before the vote to pass the bills, Majority Leader John Thune said that the Republicans would not negotiate, stressing that the only way to reopen the government is for Democrats to support a “clean,” non-partisan short-term spending resolution proposed by Republicans. Meanwhile, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blamed the shutdown on President Trump and the Republicans, accusing them of pushing policies that would raise health insurance costs and strip millions of Americans of their benefits.

The Senate also voted on a Democratic budget bill that included health care provisions, but both measures failed to pass. Senator Thune confirmed there will be no further votes this weekend, making it almost certain that the shutdown will last at least until Monday.
