The festival originated from an incident in which French colonials shot and killed two patriots in Tam Vu market at the end of the 19^th century but would not allow people to hold a funeral. Local residents claimed an epidemic had destroyed the harvest in order to hold a ceremony to worship the patriots. Later on, the Lam Chay ceremony became a festival for people to worship the souls of the dead and to take some time off at the beginning of the year. This is a unique spring festival of Long An province.

Binh Duong province’s team won the championship on Sunday at a 3-day chess competition for all ages hosted by Binh Duong province. In this year’s competition Binh Duong bagged 16 gold medals.

The organizing board of the 2014 Con Son – Kiep Bac Spring Festival held a traditional wrestling competition in Hai Duong province. This is one of the Festival’s important traditional activities. Wrestlers of Tu Ky district won the first prize.
