COVID-19: Vietnam’s daily tally breaks record with over 1,600 cases

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam confirmed an additional 591 cases of COVID-19 from 12 noon to 6 pm on Friday, raising the caseload of the day to 1,625, said the  Ministry of Health.  They include 9 imported cases and 1,616 domestic cases, of which Ho Chi Minh City had 1,229 cases.

To date, Vietnam’s infection tally has reached 26,010, including 24,103 domestic and 1,907 imported cases.

The number of cases since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the country on April 27 amounted to 22,533 with 6,210 recoveries. 110 patients have died.

Ho Chi Minh City has imposed two-week social distancing with tighter prevention measures as of 00.00 on Friday, aiming to slow the spread of the virus.  

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has called for a sufficient essential goods supply for Ho Chi Minh city and other localities in the south since many wholesale and traditional markets have been closed.
