New infections are soaring in New York, driven by the Omicron sub-variant BA.2.
South Korea's new coronavirus cases surpassed 266,000 on Tuesday, doubling the figure a day earlier.
In Thailand, a senior health official said a parcel delivery man may be infected with a new COVID-19 variant never before detected in Thailand. Genome sequencing suggested the 34-year-old man may be infected with the XJ variant, a combination of the BA.1 and BA.2 sub-variants which was first detected in Finland not long ago.
