COVID-19 pandemic brought under control thanks to national unity: PM

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam has accurately assessed how dangerous the COVID-19 was since the outset of the pandemic, activated the national disease prevention system in time and swiftly adopted solutions suitable to the pandemic development and the nation’s capacity.

Addressing Wednesday national online conference to review pandemic control effort over the past year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that an absolute all-out track and trace effort with the motto “go to every alley, knock on every door” and the spirit of “fighting a pandemic is like fighting an enemy”  have helped contain the virus in all three waves of transmission.

“This reflects national unity and patriotism, mutual support and humanitarian fine values of the Vietnamese people. The successful containment of COVID-19 has strengthened people’s confidence in the Party’s sound leadership and the State’s policies. It confirms the preeminence of our political system, including the role of public health,” he said.

Prime Minister Phuc thanked all Vietnamese people, both at home and overseas, and all-level Party organisations and administrations for collective efforts in overcoming hardship and fighting COVID-19.

He hailed lessons learned from the COVID-19 response, warning of complicated situation in the fight against the virus as new variants have emerged in the world.

“We treasure correct and resolute direction from the Party, the State and the whole political system’s joint efforts. Public health protection remains top priority which has won public consensus and resources mobilization. Self-resilience, unity, science and technology, innovation as well as transparency, information disclosure and communications for social consensus should be continued,” he said.

The Prime Minister asked all ministries, governmental agencies and provincial-level People’s Committees to continue rigorously enforcing orders made by the government and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control alongside instructions by the Ministry of Health and keeping up guard against the novel coronavirus. He emphasized on pursuing the twin goals of controlling the pandemic and boosting economic growth in the “new normal.”
