Europe has become an epicenter, with skyrocketing infections, mostly from the new Omicron variant.

Many countries have seen outbreaks of the new variant, including the US, Germany, UK, Russia and Turkey.

The US recorded the most new infections (more than 100,000) and deaths (2,000) Monday, while the UK and France both saw a record 100,000 cases.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been raging the world for two years and has spread to 221 countries and territories.
