Countries take stronger actions to contain Covid-19

(VOVWORLD) - As COVID-19 concerns grow, countries are taking stronger actions to contain the pandemic.

The Indonesian National Police are ready to press criminal charges against those who continue to hold large gatherings after being warned against doing so. Violators could be punished by up to 12 months’ imprisonment or fined up to 57 USD.  

Singapore will close bars, cinemas, and entertainment venues and limit gatherings outside work and school to 10 persons. Restrictions will be in effect from midnight on Thursday until April 30. Malls, museums, and restaurants must reduce crowd density.  
Mexico says it will close all schools until next month, ban events involving more than 100 people, and suspend some jobs as of Tuesday as it enters the “second phase” of COVID-19 prevention. 
More than 1,600 people have been arrested in Jordan in the past three days for violating a curfew aimed at stemming the spread of the coronavirus. The government has warned that people caught breaking the rules will be quarantined for 14 days and could also face up to a year of jail time.
Israelis will be banned from travelling more than 100 meters from their homes and public transportation will be drastically scaled back. Cabs will be allowed to carry only one passenger at a time. Penalties for violating the new rules include a six-month jail sentence and fines up to 1,388 USD.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a three-week nationwide lockdown starting midnight on Tuesday and allocated 2 billion USD to strengthen Indian’s health infrastructure against the novel coronavirus. 
Egypt announced that a nighttime curfew will go into effect on Wednesday from 7pm to 6am every night. The curfew will be in effect for two weeks.
