Countries, political parties strengthen cooperation, join hands to repel pandemic

(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a key note speech at the virtual summit of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and world political parties on Tuesday. The event "For the People's Wellbeing: the Responsibility of Political Parties" attracted 10,000 delegates from more than 500 political parties and organizations in over 160 countries.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that political parties and organizations need to support the government of their country in bringing happiness to the people, and  make people primary in building and implementing any policy, guideline, or platform and make sure development benefits the people.  He affirmed that Vietnam’s practical experience has taught it to consider the people’s well-being as the main goal and to rely on their invincible strength. The Party leads by guidelines based on objective rules to balance economic growth with social progress and justice.

“Closely attached to the people and winning the unanimous support of the people, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led and together with the Vietnamese people overcome difficulties and challenges over the past 90 years. After its inception, the Communist Party of Vietnam led the Vietnamese people to realize the ardent aspiration of the colonized people to gain independence in 1945, then won two all-people resistance wars to regain and preserve national independence and reunification in 1975. Since then, the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, have firmly defended their country's independence, won victories in the fight to defend the Fatherland, recovered from the wars and made great achievements in national renewal and development,” said Mr. Trong. 

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out that the urgent need now is for nations and political parties to strengthen cooperation to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, quickly recover the global socio-economy, and maintain social security.

At the conference, the political parties held that the world's people have a common wish for peace and freedom, and the political parties are responsible for addressing issues of public concern, and cooperating in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and recovering socio-economic development. They also discussed their own concerns such as fighting against embargo, terrorism and war.
