(VOVworld) – A groundbreaking ceremony for Bac Luan 2 Bridge took place on Saturday in Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh province. The bridge is expected to develop trade exchange and facilitate transportation between Vietnam and China.


The construction of Bac Luan 2 Bridge will not change the direction of river flow, reduce the river width, or change the status quo of the two countries’ border line. The bridge will be built and owned by both sides. The Chinese side will be in charge of design activities for the main bridge and the approach viaduct. The Bac Luan 2 bridge, expected to be 27.7 meters in width, and 618 meters in length, will be built in the Vietnamese side, about 3.2 km from the current Bac Luan bridge, at a cost of nearly 17 million USD. Le Quang Tung, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee, spoke at the event: "Both governments of Vietnam and China have signed agreements on the 2^nd bridge crossing the Bac Luan River. This aims to lift Vietnam-China’s economic cooperation to a higher level to satisfy increasing demands of transportation and economic, cultural, and trade exchanges of the two countries."
