It aims to raise public awareness on waste and call on people to work together to protect the maritime environment and promote a green lifestyle, which will help minimize climate change impacts and contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable development.

Tran Quoc Viet, Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Court Magazine, told the launch ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday: “We’ll organize activities to collect waste on beaches before handing clean beaches to the local authorizes for management. We’ll mobilize students of universities, naval and border guard forces to manage, monitor, and prevent violations.”

The “Clean the sea” program will give 5,000 scholarships to poor students and 5,000 gifts to poor fishermen, and install 10,000 trash bins.
The funding will come from art programs and sports competitions such as running and golf tournaments. The program will begin first in Ha Tinh province in August, followed by Ho Chi Minh City in October, and Kien Giang province in December.
