Casualties in Indonesia earthquake keep rising

(VOVWORLD) - At least 162 were killed and 13,000 others were injured in a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Indonesia's West Java province on Monday afternoon, Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil told the local media.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the quake’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). It has destroyed more than 2,000 houses, high-rise buildings, and other infrastructure in the locality.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong said that as of 6pm on Monday, there weren’t any Vietnamese casualties. Vietnamese Embassy has moved to grasp the situation of Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in nearby localities, including Bandung and Bogor regencies of West Java and Jakarta capital city.

It will keep a close watch on the situation and stay ready to take citizen protection measures when necessary, he noted.
