Miki Nozawa, Head of Education Department of UNESCO Office in Hanoi, said Cao Lanh city has strong commitments to lifelong learning as well as strategies and plans to promote lifelong learning in local communities. The city is ready to share its experiences and initiatives, especially in boosting reading habits of local residents. This helped Cao Lanh city to be enrolled in the GNLC, Nozawa added.

Cao Lanh was added to the list on September 2, raising the number of such cities in Vietnam to five. Along with 77 cities from 44 other countries, it is the second city in Dong Thap Province, besides Sa Dec, to be officially listed in the GNLC.

The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, a center for research in lifelong learning, launched the “UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities” in 2012.
