He made the decision to resign at 8:30 a.m. on July 7, London time, after he had a meeting with  Graham Brady, Chairman of the powerful 1922 Committee which gathers Conservative MPs in the Parliament and is the main governing body for the Conservatives.

After ministers, including two secretaries of state, continued to quit the government early on Thursday, Johnson was set to bow to the inevitable and declare he was stepping down later.

Pressure to resign on Boris Johnson peaked early on Thursday when four more ministers submitted their resignations, bringing the total number of government officials resigning in the past 3 days to nearly 50 people. Even some of the new ministers appointed by Boris Johnson two days ago have publicly appeared in the media calling for Boris Johnson to leave because the situation has become irreparable.
