The committee said it was unable to retrieve any recordings from the black boxes because of damage caused by the impact. According to Deputy Head of the Emergency Ministry Vladimir Stepanov, both black boxes were sent to Moscow for analysis.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has sent a team to Moscow to aid the investigation. The Boeing group will also assist the investigation at the request of the Interstate Aviation Committee. The crashed airplane made a rough landing due to bad weather in Belo-Horizonte city, Brazil, 12 years ago. None of the 102 passengers and 6 crew members was injured on that occasion, but the aircraft was seriously damaged.
