Australia imposes sanctions on Iran and Myanmar

(VOVWORLD) -The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday announced new sanctions against a number of individuals and organizations of Iran and Myanmar.

Australian travel bans and asset freezes will be applied to 16 people and one entity linked to “serious abuses of human rights in Iran”, including the commander-in-chief of the army, Sayyed Abdolrahim Mousavi, and senior figures in the Basij resistance force, says the Australian Foreign Ministry.

In addition, Australia also extended financial sanctions to four Iranians believed to be involved in the production and supply of drones to Russia.

Australia also announced targeted financial sanctions and travel bans against individuals include 16 members of the Myanmar military regime’s governing State Administration Council (SAC), as key individuals directly responsible for the coup d’état two years ago.
