City and federal officials are calling the shooting a racially motivated hate crime. Among the 13 victims shot, 11 were African American and two were white, authorities said.

The mass shooting occurred in a Black neighborhood of upstate New York, which is located just a few kilometers from the center of town.

The suspect was identified as Payton Gendron who was being questioned Saturday evening by the FBI.
