AIPA is role model for regional inter-parliamentary cooperation, says NA Chairman

(VOVWORLD) - The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is a role model for inter-parliamentary cooperation in the region, said Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue at the AIPA’s 43rd General Assembly which opened in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Monday.

Chairman Hue put forth some proposals, focusing on strengthening ASEAN’s solidarity and ASEAN’s centrality in maintaining peace, security, and stability. 

“Parliaments should consolidate and renew the organization and operation of AIPA, increasing coordination and relations between lawmaking and law enforcement branches inamong regional countries, particularly cooperation in digital transformation and just energy transition.”

Mr. Hue said he shares other head delegates’ views on the responsibility of major countries and developed countries in climate change response.

It took a lot of time and efforts to reach an initial agreement on a climate fund at COP27, which shows a complicated issue that ASEAN and AIPA should proactively deal with, he said.  

Chairman Hue also called for greater attention to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
