9th Asian Winter Games opens in China’s Harbin

(VOVWORLD) -Chinese President Xi Jinping officially declared the 9th Asian Winter Games open on Friday night with spectators at the Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Center bursting into cheers during a festive ceremony highlighting China's ice and snow culture.

The 80-minute extravaganza featured a spectacular performance symbolizing unity and friendship, with ice sculptures representing Asian nations lighting up the sub-venue Harbin Ice and Snow World, the world's largest ice and snow theme park.

Among foreign guests were the Sultan of Brunei, President of Kyrgyzstan, President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Thailand and Chairman of the Republic of Korean National Assembly.

With the slogan "Dream of Winter, Love among Asia" the Harbin Asian Winter Games 2025’s sacred flame was lit on the lilac-shaped cauldron located in the center of the world's largest ice and snow park.

The Games has a record participation of more than 1,270 athletes from 34 countries and territories in Asia. The Vietnam Sports Delegation consists of three members with Duong Truong Lap being the only competing athlete.

During the competitions until February 14, there are 32 skating events held in Harbin and 32 skiing events held in Yabuli.
