700 Vietnamese athletes to compete in 30 sports of SEA Games in Cambodia

(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnamese sports delegation to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games comprises more than 1,000 members, including 702 athletes, a record high number of people in the Vietnamese sports the history to  be sent to a SEA Games held outside of Vietnam.

A send-off ceremony was held in Hanoi on Wednesday for the athletes, who will compete in 30 sports with 447 events, aim to win from 90 to 120 gold medals and stand in the top 3 of the Games.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai told the send-off ceremony, “Each member of the Vietnamese sports delegation must be aware of their glorious responsibility, to well demonstrate the cultural tradition, spread the good values of Vietnam to international friends, strengthen solidarity and friendship, and exchange experiences with other delegations. Each individual is a cultural ambassador of the country, at the same time, the members need to unite and overcome difficulties, maintain discipline, exert greatest efforts to accomplish tasks."

"Compete with a noble, tenacious, creative and honest sports spirit to achieve high results at the Games, contribute to raising the position of Vietnamese sports to a new height and affirm the cultural traditions of Vietnam. Respect the rules of the game and respect the cultural traditions of the participating countries,” Khai said. 

As planned, the Vietnam Sports Delegation will set off for Cambodia on May 3. The SEA Games will take place from May 5 to 17 in the capital Phnom Penh and four provinces of Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep.
