6th “Ao dai” festival kicks off in Ho Chi Minh City

(VOVWORLD) - The 6th “Ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional long gown) festival opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday to honor the traditional costume and promote local tourism to domestic and foreign visitors.

This year, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, who sealed a historic top five place of Miss Universe 2018, is the representative of the festival.

The festival will feature a beauty pageant contest, a photo competition, a seminar on materials for “ao dai”, and parades. Festival goers will be introduced to “ao dai” collections by 26 designers from across Vietnam and a designer from South Korea.

Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh municipal Department of Tourism, said: “Each collection is set on a specific theme, such as environmental protection. This is also the theme of an activity on Nguyen Hue walking street where ladies wear ‘ao dai” and shape a giant tree.”

On Sunday 3,000 people wearing “ao dai” paraded along Nguyen Hue street.

During the two-week festival, some 15 activities and programs will take place across famous spots of in Ho Chi Minh City. This annual festival has become a trademark of Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism and culture.
