(VOVworld) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on Sunday to mark the 60th anniversary of the schools for southern students in northern Vietnam. Following the signing of the Geneva Agreement in 1954, a system of schools for southern students was established in northern provinces.

More than 32,000 students from southern provinces traveled to study in northern provinces, who later contributed to the revolutionary movement in southern Vietnam and national reunification. In his address, President Truong Tan Sang said: “This model was in place for 20 years. It applied comprehensive educational principles with practices.”

President Sang said he hopes the former students and teachers will continue to contribute to national development.
