During the 4-day session, delegates discussed the election of the 15^th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 term, delegates to attend the 13^th National Party Congress and some other issues. The Party Central Committee adopted a Resolution of the meeting.

In his closing speech, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong said: “In the coming years, the situation in the region and the world is forecast to see rapid, complicated, unexpected developments which will create both opportunities and challenges for national renewal and development and safeguarding of national independence,  sovereignty and territorial integrity. We need to stay strong, maintain our revolutionary stance, and foster bonds with the people. The 13^th Party Central Committee must be a united and strong organization with pure morality, strong political stance, persistence with the goal of national independence and socialism. It must represent the wisdom, strategic vision, innovative mindset, fighting spirit and disciplines of the entire party."

The Party Central Committee reached consensus on structure and criteria for selecting members of the Party Central Committee.

Regarding the election of the National Assembly and People’s Council for the next tenure, Mr. Trong said: "We need to make the elections a success and the election day a festival of all people. It’s important to bring into play leadership role of Party organizations, local administrations and the entire political system from the central to grassroots level. We aim to select outstanding deputies of the National Assembly and People’s Councils and ensure the number of deputies. We hope to elect 500 NA deputies and meet the ratio of full-time deputies."

Mr. Trong said that the COVID-19 pandemic has hurt every aspect of socio-economic life causing great losses to Vietnam and countries around the world. He asked members of the Party Central Committee to uphold their responsibility to implement resolutions of the 12^th Party Committee and prepare for the 13^th National Party Congress.
