The delegation also inspected construction of the coal transportation system,  wet flue gas desulfurisation units, and other facilities.

General contractor PETROCONs presented 3 scenarios and guaranteed that  Unit 1 will be put into commercial operation on November 30, 2022, Unit 2 on December 31, 2022, and the entire plant will be handed over to Petrovietnam on December 31, 2022 as planned. After the inspection tour of the construction site, General Director Hung chaired an online meeting with DQS, the contractor in charge of the plant’s coal transportation system.

Contractors have deployed more than 1,000 workers at the construction site. 35 firms are currently involved in the project including 27 domestic contractors, 4 foreign contractors (Qingdao, SDC, ABB, and BWBC), plus 4 companies involved in maintenance work (PVPS, PVCFC, NPS, PV Power HT.)

General contractor PETROCONs and other contractors are gearing up building the coal transportation system. By August 20, all mechanical work had been completed and the system has been handed over to contractor FLSmit which will install an automatic operation system.

According to PETROCONs, 96.15% of the project has been completed, 2.44% behind schedule.  PETROCONs General Director Phan Tu Giang said that the coal transportation system will be completed by September 20 at the latest.

The coal transportation system plays a crucial role in the operation of the power plant. Only when this system is completed can the plant operate at its full capacity which is estimated to consume 3,000 tonnes of coal per day. Other facilities such as the slag removal system and the fire-fighting system are progressing as planned.

“We have no other choices but to complete this challenging project ahead of schedule. I call on the general contractor and subcontractors to make the best of each day, each hour, and each meeting to achieve this goal,” said General Director Le Manh Hung.

The Thai Binh 2 power plant lies within the 254.22ha Thai Binh Power Centre located on the left bank of the Tra Ly River. It consists of two 600MW coal-fired units. The Thai Binh Power Centre also houses the 600MW Thai Binh 1 coal-fired power plant, which has been operational since 2017.
