Themed “Stories of Rivers”, the two-month-long Danang International Firework Festival 2019 began on June 1 with fireworks teams from Russia, Brazil, Belgium, Finland, Italy, England, China, and host Vietnam, who use fireworks to present the rivers in their country. The five nights of competition have five different topics: Origin, Sprouts of life, Love, Colors, and Offshore.
According to Director General Do Thanh Hai, state-of-the-art techniques by the eight teams produced spectacular fireworks displays. “Besides the five competition nights highlighting of the festival, there will also be a variety of cultural and art activities”, Hai said.
The city’s first fireworks festival impressed spectators in 2008. Since then the annual festival has become bigger and better.
According to Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of the Danang municipal People’s Committee, local authorities decided in 2008 to make an international fireworks festival Danang’s tourism trademark. The festival has made Danang the leading tourist festival destination in Asia and boosted Danang popularity around the world as a dynamic, innovative city which is constantly moving forward. Mr. Tho told VOV: “Danang these days is bustling. We are modernizing Danang and making it more attractive to visitors.”

The Danang International Fireworks Festival is getting more spectacular and luring more spectators. Originally a two-day competition, the festival now spans two months with a series of sideline events.
Pham Quang Khai of Binh Phuoc province said: “This is the third time I’ve been to Danang. I see an improvement in tourism service quality and transportation infrastructure every time I visit Danang. This clean, hospitable city is worth living in.”
Last year Danang welcomed 7.6 million tourists. 1.6 million came for the fireworks festival. The local tourism sector is now planning a lasers and music water show on the Han river and new tours of the city and its beaches.
